“Making access to heritage a right and a pleasure for all”

The village of Les Baux de Provence is the first in Bouches-du-Rhône to provide new sightseeing tools for people with impaired vision.

The old town is also the first of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” to establish a partnership with the Bouches-du-Rhône Tourist Board in order to obtain the “Tourisme et Handicap” label for the tour, marking significant commitment on the part of the village.
The project is designed for visually-impaired and blind visitors, giving them a chance to discover the village heritage through an audio and tactile tour lasting 90 minutes. Two types of visitor log are available – a large-print version and a version in Braille, both of them describing the village along a specific route. To make it easier to tour the village, plaques have been mounted on the façades of the 16 places of interest mentioned in the audioguide.
This innovation rounds off the tour of the Santons Museum, which was renovated in 2008 and which now has a visitors’ guide totally written in Braille.
All these documents are available free of charge at the tourist board.
