Louis Valtat

From 7th May to 16th September, Musée Yves Brayer

Louis Valtat was born in Dieppe in 1869.

In 1895 during a stay in Banyuls, he extended his palette to include the more violent tones that he felt he needed on the Mediterranean Coast, in Agay then in Anthéor.

He struck up a friendship with Paul Signac, his neighbour in Saint-Tropez.

In 1924, the traveller settled in the Chevreuse Valley near Paris where he painted the flowers in his garden and the family and friends around him. He died in Paris in 1952.

The exhibition will include some forty works and will focus on his Mediterranean period. There will also be landscapes, portraits, compositions and water colours showing every aspect of his work.
